About | James Gordon Mumby was born Dec. 6, 1941, at the Lynch Clinic in Fairbury, Neb., the oldest some of Gordon and Marian Sellenrick Mumby. He died Jan. 10, 1984, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. He was baptized on Christmas day in 1941 at home by the Rev. George Roth. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ April 1, 1956, by the Rev. Roland W. (?osto). His childhood years were spent on farms north of Jansen. He attednded rural school Districts 75 and 2 and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout in Jansen. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1959 and attended Fairbury Junior College. During high school he worked for Bud Mulkey, learning the television service trade. After graduation he worked for Smitty’s in Jansen for 22 years. He was a member of the Fairbury Elks Lodge. On Feb. 9, 1973, he married Peggy (?)lewes and to this union were born a daughter Kimberly, and a son James II. Survivors include his children and their mother of Fairbury, brother Jerry Mumby, of Lincoln; sister Patricia, Mrs. Jerry Jock, of Kansas City, MO., and parents, Gordon and Marian Mumby, of Fairbury. Services were Jan. 13, 1984, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at Jansen with the Rev. Gilbert Cook officiating. Soloist was Leonard Korbals and organist, Nancy Harms. Pallbearers were Jerry Campbell, David Mees, Gilbert Harms, Robert Schmidt, Leonard Holtmeier and Steve Beetley. Graveside services at the church cemetery were by Fairbury Elks Lodge 1203. |
