| About | Duane George Winkler died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at home after a short battle with cancer. Burial will be in the Gates Cemetery north of Broken Bow with military honors. Mr. Winkler was born February 10,1947 at Tilden, Nebraska to George and Velda (Kemper) Winkler. He grew up in O'Neill and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1965. Duane served in the United Stated Army from March 1966 to March 1968 serving in Vietnam. After his service, Duane returned to work for the Safeway Store. On April 4, 1975, he married Mildred Gilpin at Grand Island. Duane & Mildred moved to Broken Bow in 1983. He worked for the Grocery Kart in Broken Bow for 23 years. Duane was a member of the American Legion and a past member of the Elks. Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Milly, two sons and daughter-in-laws,Shawn & JoLynn WInkler of Lincoln; JJ & April Winkler of North Platte. |
