About | Gary Don Christensen, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022 with his family at his side. Gary was born June 12, 1947, to Delbert and Lela (Oltman) Miller. His mother remarried after the passing of Delbert and Gary was adopted by Mervin Christensen and the entire Christensen family. He always considered himself fortunate to have three sets of grandparents, Raymond and Anna Oltman, Martin and Jorena Christensen and Cecil and Besse Miller. At the age of ten, Gary was employed as a bellhop after school and on weekends at the Erin Rancho Motel in Grand Island. He also worked at Vavra's Sausage Kitchen as a teenager. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1965. Gary was married to the mother of his girls, Judy Linden, for 28 years. He made his career in sales, working for Fedders Corp., and later Grand Island Express where he was Executive Vice President of Marketing. He also was a small business owner in Grand Island. He was a member of the Ashlar 33 Masonic Lodge, the Saddle Club and was in the Who's Who of American Business. Gary loved golf, football and enjoyed coaching softball and baseball for his girls and grandkids. He loved to talk 'ball' with them. He also followed and loved watching the horse races. Gary grew up around horses and they always held a special place in his heart. Those who cherish his memory include his girls, Brenda Karr (Todd Friesen) of Grand Island, Angie (Kelly) Fegter of Mount Ulla, NC, Amy (Jason) Deras of Grand Island, and Carissa Christensen of Grand Island; eleven grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Karr, Brandon, Jordan, Allison and Amanda Fegter, Megan Carbajal, and Lauren, Shelby, Emily and Elara Christensen. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, brothers, Gregg Christensen of Lincoln and Brad (Barb) Christensen of Buffalo, WY; sister, Raye Ann Christensen of Grand Island; nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved Westie, Harley. Burial of ashes will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. |
