About | James B. Pokorney 59, of Grand Island, died Saturday, August 20, 2005 at the V.A. Medical Center in Hot Springs, S.D. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Mr. Pokorney was born August 18, 1946 to John and Camilla (McHugh) Pokorney. After graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years. While serving 18 months in Vietnam, he was with the Fighting 40 CB's Company. After returning, he married Ella and was employed as a construction worker by various firms in the Grand Island area. Later he married Diane. James went to Hot Springs, S.D. V.A. Medical Center and stayed for a short time, volunteering his services whereever he was needed. While he was in Hot Springs, he worked out every day, swam at Evan's Plunge and enjoyed ceramics and leather crafts. He was a member of the Catholic Faith, enjoyed helping others and did an enormous amount of volunteering. While in South Dakota, James had many friends and became friends with the Rev. Peter Kovorik, who officiated at the memorial service for him in South Dakota. James was Lube's, his finance caregriver for many years until her recent death. |
