About | Marshall K. Maddox died August 23, 2006 of brain cancer. He was 59. Marshall was born on July 2, 1947 to Kenneth & Glennys Maddox. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior School in 1965. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Maddox worked as the training officer for Company B, 2nd Battalion, 134th Infantry in Falls City. He retired from the Nebraska Army National Guard in 1996. He worked as a substitue teacher until getting a full time teaching job at the Falls City Alternative School in 2001 He also volunteered for many community projects. He founded the Richardson County Military Museum and organized many Veteran Day events He was elected to the city council in 1990 and became council president in 1996. After the former Mayor, Bill Farmer left the office because of health reasons, Maddox filled the position beginning in 1997. He was elected mayor in 1998 and again in 2002. Marshal lMaddox was seeking his third term as mayor of the Richardson County, a community of 4,671 at the time of his death. As a respected leader from the community, his death left the November mayoral race up in the air. The Falls City mayor's office is officially nonpartisan and pays $200 a month. During his tenure as mayor, he led efforts to update the city's water treatment and waste-water treatment plants. He also encourage the council to seek voters approval to build a new aquatic park and library. John Nixon, city council present said, "Marshall did a tremendous job as mayor, There just wasn't a more community-oriented guy than Marshall." Marshall Maddox is survived by his wife, Sherry, his sons, Alex and Wade, his parents of Grand Island, a brother, Al of Kansas City, Kansas and a sister, Judy Spivey of North Carolina. |
