Larry was born in Los Angeles, California on August 13, 1946. At the age of three he moved to Sparks, Nevada with his mother and step-father, Margaret and Ben Wilson. Within just a few years he was joined by a younger sister and brother. He graduated from Sparks High School in 1964. He grew up surrounded by numerous aunts and uncles and cousins enjoying many family BBQs and reunions. He had a strong work ethic and began fixing things, working on cars, doing yardwork and started taking on jobs as a young teen. He continued with that love of manual work and accomplishment all his life! Larry enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and was selected to attend submarine school in New London, Connecticut where he learned to be an accomplished welder. He served on the USS Sabalo Submarine during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. After his discharge from the Navy, Larry put his experience to use in business fabricating wheels for race cars. He also enjoyed rebuilding VW bugs and turning them into Baja bugs which he raced in the winter Baja races Larry married for the first time later in life. Last year Larry was diagnosed with cancer. He chose to spend his remaining time in home hospice care and passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023. Our family wants to thank the nurses, social worker and CNA’s at Infinity Hospice Care for giving him the care and support he needed to navigate his final journey. Larry is lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a good guy, a hard worker and ultimately got to do it “his way! He is survived by his wife Nadja Hall, his Mother Margaret Wilson, his brother Fred Wilson and wife Jill of Fernley, NV, his sister Marcia Thomsen of Reno and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Larry was preceded in death by his step-father Ben Wilson in 2007. Larry will be buried at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veteran’s Way, Fernley, Nevada on Thursday, March 30th at 11am. |
