About Paul Mendive passed away suddenly on March 9th in Graeagle, California. His family and friends are deeply saddened and shocked by his death. Paul was the youngest of his siblings, born on June 12, 1955, in Reno, Nevada, to parents Louis and Madeleine Mendive.

Paul attended Sparks schools, graduating from Sparks High School in 1973. Following that he attended Everett Community College in Everett, Washington, on a football scholarship. During his time in Washington, he developed several close friendships and became a lifelong Seattle Seahawks football fan.

After two years in Everett, Paul transferred to the University of Nevada - Reno, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. He joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at the UNR in 1976, following in his father's and brothers' footsteps. He was elected Worthy Master in 1979. In 2000 he earned a Master of Arts in Education.

Paul taught and coached in the Churchill and Washoe County school districts his entire career, spending the majority of his professional career at McQueen High School where he coached football and baseball. He retired in 2014.

Paul had many interests including golfing, riding his road and mountain bikes, working out at the gym, and travel adventures with his wife Kara, including many San Francisco Giants baseball games, visiting major league baseball parks throughout the country, and last summer a 10 day rafting trip on Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. He was a member at Aikido of Reno for 12 years, (he was working on earning his black belt). He also continued to be active with the ATO fraternity, serving on the house board for the past seven years and taking over as president the past two years.

Paul is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kara, daughter Melena, son Myles, his faithful dog Milo, brothers David and Lyle, sister Marcia, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Paul possessed a unique, affable, and easy-going persona that drew people to him. He will be remembered for his love for his family and friends, quick wit, and kindness to everyone. He will be desperately missed. A celebration of life will be held in the next few months.
