About | Matt understood the power of storytelling and never worried about the small stuff, like whether or not the story was true. He honestly didn’t care about that. Matt knew he was graced with the kind of deep voice that instantly grabbed the attention of anyone within earshot, and captivating his audience was all that mattered. My favorite tale was the one about a snowy evening when Matt’s feet were swept out from under him while he was holding open the door of a local restaurant. He landed flat on his ass, eyes blazing with rage and indignation, ready to do mortal combat with his attacker. Imagine his disappointment when he realized that the assailant, who had dared get the drop on him, was just a kid, sledding down the sidewalk straddling a frozen turkey. He managed to get in the last word though, as we all knew he would, when he finally managed to stammer out…is…that…a…butterball?” He passed away peacefully at home in Prescott, Arizona in June of 2021. I was with him at the end and I know this, Matthew Francis Lewis breathed his last breath able to love and knowing that he was loved. He was finally at peace with himself. Well, mostly at peace with himself...after all, he had his reputation to maintain!! Michelle Lewis (nee Gauvin) |
