About Aldo was a beloved figure in the Dover community. For 32 years, he owned and operated the Dover Corner Market at the intersection of S. Morris Street and E. Munson Avenue. Following his tenure at the market, he dedicated 14 years to working at Kings Supermarket in Mendham.
In 1974, encouraged by friends and family, Aldo entered public office when he won the 3rd Ward Alderman seat. He subsequently decided to run for Mayor and won. He served five terms as Mayor of Dover and became one of the longest-serving mayors in Dover’s history. Over the course of 28 years in public service, he also contributed an additional 18 years as a Dover Water Commissioner. His career in public service spanned 46 years, during which he earned a reputation for his unwavering dedication to the betterment of Dover.
Throughout his life, Aldo remained deeply committed to Dover, having lived on the same street for 87 years, operated a business in the town for 32 years, and devoted 46 years to public service.
Aldo coached with Dover Little League, supported local scouting, supported Dover youth and high school football, veterans, and most of all, played an active role in his family's lives.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, a special ceremony was held to rename West Chrystal Street in honor of Aldo’s decades of public service. The street was officially renamed “Mayor Cicchetti Place.”
He was a true statesman, deeply committed to his hometown and unwavering in his support for its residents. He also had a special place in his heart for those facing adversity, advocating for those who needed it most. Throughout his tenure in public service, he made decisions guided solely by the best interests of Dover, without any pursuit of personal political advantage thereby leaving a lasting legacy of community dedication.
