Shortly after Bev attended a 10th Class Reunion she left with a group of 5 including Dr. James Dodge of Trenton headed, by yacht, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As reported in the "Frederick Post", Fredrick Maryland on August 16, 1967: There was a storm and the 64 foot "Lanran" sank in the Atlantic. Everyone drowned except the sole survivor Chris Brooks, 22. He said that Beverly's daughter was washed from his arms as he slept. According to him, during a storm the ship was severely damaged. The pumps stopped working and the yacht started taking on water. In about 10 minutes the yacht sank. Dr. James Dodge was lost at sea. Chris Brooks 22, Francis Gravatt 28 (captain), Beverly (Wucinski) Minotti 28, and her daughter Kimberly 3, clung to a piece of the boat for days. Eventually everyone but Chris drowned. He was rescued on Monday Aug. 14, 1937. |
