About | Mrs. Barbara Doherty of Somerset, N.J., died on Monday afternoon at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. She was 65 years old. Friends and relatives may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, in Somerset, N.J. At Mrs. Doherty's request, please no tiger lilies. Please contact the funeral home regarding the timing for services on Friday. Mrs. Doherty was born in New Brunswick and resided in Somerset for the past 23 years. She was employed by John Wiley & Sons as an operations manager and retired last year after over 45 years of service to the company. Mrs. Doherty was a longtime parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Somerset where she belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and the Loaves and Fishes Ministry. She volunteered her time to such organizations as Meals on Wheels, Elijah's Promise, at local nursing homes in Franklin Township, N.J., and tutoring English as a Second Language students. She was the ultimate hostess and invited her family to her home for nearly every holiday. The door was open to anyone to enjoy the plentiful amounts of food she would work so hard to prepare. As a loving grandmother she would continually dote over her four grandchildren and great-nieces and great-nephews. She also was a world traveler, visiting such places as Ireland, Italy, Australia, and Costa Rica. Mrs. Doherty was predeceased by her husband, Jack Doherty, in 2004; her parents, Gaber and Gizella Szucs, and her brothers, Robert and David Szucs. She is survived by her children of marriage, Sean Doherty of Ohio, Mark and Wendy Doherty of California, Mary Kate Doherty of Bedminster, N.J., Tim and Karen Doherty of Somerset, N.J., and Meg DeFilippis and her husband, Matt, also of Somerset. She is also survived by her nephews: Dan Szucs and Liz, of Edison, N.J., Allen Szucs and Carole, of Kendall Park, N.J., David Szucs and Kim, of Bridgewater, N.J., and Brian Szucs and Dawn, of Griggstown, N.J.; her great- nephews, Ryan, Zachary, and Evan, great-nieces, Olivia and Lindsay; her sisters-in-law, Muriel Szucs of Edison and Barbara Szucs of Somerset; her four grandchildren, Matthew, Molly, Colleen, and Kaitrin, and her beloved friends, Darlene Dupree, Jan Frey, and Larry Sitler.
