About Obituary
John "Jack" W. Mansfield, III, 72, of Hamilton Square, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at The Clare Estate, Anthony's Walk Memory Unit in Bordentown, under the care of Greenwood Hospice.

Born on October 18, 1944, in Hackensack, NJ, Jack was raised in Hasbrouck Heights. He lived in Hamilton Square since 1971. Jack graduated Magna Cum Laude from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1966 and from Rutgers University with a MS in 1968. While serving in the Vietnam War, Jack was awarded a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. After his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army with the rank of First Lieutenant, Jack began a career with the NJ Department of Transportation, where he enjoyed working for 37 years. He always said that he never had a day that he didn't want to go to work.

Jack loved to travel and vacationed in many countries around the world. He loved to spend time at the beach, always with a book to read. He played tennis for many years with the NJDOT Tennis League, was a member of DOT Retirees Association and served several terms on their Board. Jack coached his daughters' softball teams and never missed a game, a dance performance or a band show. Until his illness, he volunteered at McCarter Theater and called it the best gig around because of all the concerts and plays he was able to enjoy. Jack was known for his subtle and understated wit and his friendly manner. He could fix anything and was the consummate engineer. He will be remembered as a loving husband and a caring father.

Son of the late Bill and Evelyn (Hess) Mansfield; he is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Andrea (Fournier) Mansfield of Hamilton; his daughters, Melanie Mansfield of Hamilton and Meredith Mansfield Williams and her husband, Jack Williams, of Stowe, VT; his brothers, Barry Mansfield and Randy Mansfield and wife, Linda, all of Hasbrouck Heights; his sister-in-law, Joen Van Horn and husband, Bill, of Whiting; brother-in-law, John Fournier and wife, Rhona, of Kissimmee, FL; his nephews, Tommy and Sean Mansfield, Brian and Eric Van Horn, Marc Fournier; his niece, Denise Fournier; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
