About | William G. O'Neal Jr., 85 of Newton died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Newton Medical Center. Born in Netcong on August 20, 1928, Mr. O'Neal taught in Hackettstown for twelve years and in Newton High School for twenty-six years, where he was Chairman of the World Language Department. He was a member of the Frankford Plains United Methodist church. He sang with the Plainsmen (church choir), the Sunshine Singers and the Green Township Chorus. Mr. O'Neal was also a member of the Mayflower Society, the sons of the American Revolution, the Descendants of Colonial Clergy, The Musconetcong Foundrymen Historical Society,the NRA, and the Sussex County Retired Educator Association. The son of the late William O'Neal, Sr. and Dorothy (nee Wood) O'Neal, was also predeceased by his sister, Jane W. Steams,in 2004. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 25 at 4 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Stanhope-Union Cemetery.
