About | Bernard Henry 'Biff' Bueffel III Jan. 10, 1944 - Jan. 15, 2021 Biff (aka Dr. B) died at home peacefully surrounded by family Jan. 15, 2021, at the age of 77. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Bernard Jr. "Barney" and Marion Bueffel. After living in Lewisburg, Pa., physicians encouraged the family to move to a drier climate due to his acute asthma. In 1952, the family packed up and moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where he lived out his childhood. After graduating from Sandia High School, he ventured to the Pacific Northwest where he attended Reed College in Portland, Ore. He returned to attend medical school at the University of New Mexico and then completed his pediatric residency at the University of Arizona. Under the Berry Plan, Biff returned to the Pacific Northwest and served three years in the Navy on Whidbey Island (Oak Harbor, Wash.) as one of two pediatricians. There he met his wife, Elaine, and they married in 1975. Their love of the Northwest led to settling down and making Portland their home. Biff started a pediatric practice in Portland in 1976 and worked his true passion of caring for children and families for 37 years. Preceded by his parents; he is survived by his wife, Elaine; six children: Ashlea Barde (Michael Eiler), Leslie Jones (Christopher), David Bueffel (Karin), Scott Bueffel (Jennifer), Elizabeth Dreith (Doug), and Amy Emory (T.J.); his sister, Janet Mount-Campbell (Clark) and family; and 13 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Randall Children's Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association in his name.
