About David Charles Dunckle known to friends and family as "Dave" or “Uncle Dunck” was born on August 13, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky to Marguerite Boundy Dunckle (later Pearce) and Charles Gorman Dunckle. He passed away on April 24, 2025, in Federal Way, Washington at St Francis Hospital due to complications from Cancer treatment.
David grew up in Amsterdam and Tribes Hill, New York, where he attended Amsterdam High School. He played trumpet, accordian and was on the track team. He enlisted in the Army after high school and served from October 23, 1961 to August 4, 1964 achieving the rank of E4. He trained as a field medic and served overseas and in the states. While stationed at Chicago he attended the University of Chicago taking classes in drafting and engineering. He later was certified as a commercial pilot with a float plane rating.
Upon his discharge from the Army he used his VA benefits to become a certified VW repair Master Mechanic and worked for various VW and other car dealerships between 1964 and 1979. From 1979 until his retirement in 2004 he had various work as a real estate salesperson, certified commercial broker, as well as some small engine repair and musical instrument repair.
David is survived by his spouse of 46 years, Sharon Dunckle, their child, Michael Dunckle, granddaughter Lucia Dunckle, daughter in law Coreen Schnepf and step grandchildren Roxanne, Elizabeth, William and Cole Schnepf. Additionally, his children, Laura Dunckle Nevada and Lisa Dunckle Cruz from his first marriage to Patricia Tennity 1963-1977.
David loved Alaska, ham radio (KL1KW, Extra, now a silent key), flying, racing VW’s, dog mushing, sailing and reading. Prior to his passing he took up photography and drawing. He had many great stories about the Army, flying, his time in Alaska and sailing Prince William Sound. He spent his life continuing his education in many areas, including history and religion. He was continually looking for the truth about everything and hopefully he has found that now.
Events A brief graveside service will be held at on April 27, 2026. Family will have a private Celebration of Life the weekend prior.
