Joseph Simmons, Jr. was born on January 18, 1955 at Highland Hospital in Beacon, NY. He was the son of Joseph and Diane Simmons. He attended and graduated from Beacon High School, where he excelled in intramural football and basketball. In 1974 he was featured in the national "Who's Who" All American register of High School Basketball All-Stars. He married Marie (Manetta) Simmons, whom he later divorced. From that union, two sons were born, Joseph Simmons, III and Jason Simmons. Joseph began his career as a driver/delivery person for United Parcel Service based in Kingston. Joseph ultimately was owner/operator and logistics provider for Allied Van Lines located in Bremerton, Washington. His love for the open road, and his devotion to his family frequently kept him traveling across the many highways where he acquired numerous friends and acquaintances who mourn his passing. Joseph's zest for life also allowed him to actively pursue his passion for motorcycles and cars. Homer, as some of his friends called him, was known to all as a quiet, unassuming man, who often had little problem conversing with strangers of all walks of life. His devotion to his faith and his generosity led him to privately sponsor a family in need every Christmas with food, clothing and toys. The front grill plate of his truck featured the words "Truly Blessed" and he lived a life that truly exemplified that expression. He often said "live life for today, because tomorrow is not promised to anyone." Joseph will long be remembered for his no-nonsense approach to the every day problems associated with life in general, and as an unwavering, faithful friend to all who knew him. Survivors include his mother, Diane Simmons of Beacon, NY; two sons, Joseph Simmons, III of Beacon and Jason Simmons of Providence, RI; two brothers, Barry Simmons of New York, NY and Kimball Johnson and his wife, Elisa of Morristown, NJ; one grandchild, Elisjah Simmons of Beacon, NY.
