Events Chester Lewis Obituary
Chester A. Lewis, 77, of Floyd, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 30, 2024, peacefully surrounded by family.

Born on February 4, 1947, to the late Jack Lewis and Shirley Bars Lewis, in Milwaukee, WI, but Chet made Central New York his home for most of his life.

Chet leaves his beloved wife, Arlene; his sons, Gregg (Lauren), Todd and Trevor (Shawna); sisters, Cheri, Jacqui (Gary) and Penny (Leanne); brothers, Danny, David, John (Rose) and Louie (Carol); along with a large extended family whom he loved dearly.

Chet was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned two Bronze Stars, a Commendation Medal for Heroism and the Purple Heart. After his military service, he worked for the telephone company until he retired in 2007. Even in retirement, Chet stayed active by working part-time for the town of Floyd's Water Department.

Chet was known for his warm, genuine nature and his love for people. He found joy in spending time with others - talking, laughing and sharing stories. He especially loved the outdoors and enjoyed tending to his gardens. He could often be found drinking his coffee on the deck at the family camp, enjoying the peace of the mornings there.

Since there will be no formal services, the family invites those who wish to honor Chet's memory to consider making a donation to the Floyd Methodist Church, the Humane Society or a charity of your choice. The family also wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for the kindness and support shown during Chet's illness.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut St., Rome. Please offer online condolences at www.BarryFuneralHome.com.
