About | MAYVILLE- H. Timothy “TJ” Jacobson, 77, of Mayville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, with family at his side following a lengthy illness. He was born November 3, 1946, in Mayville, the son of the late Henry E and Evelyn Davis Jacobson. Tim was a 1966 graduate of Mayville Central School. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a meat cutter for Lighthouse Point Grocery for over 42 years, retiring in 2012. Tim was a lifelong resident of Mayville and took great pride in serving his community. He was a life member of William L. Travis American Legion Post 493 for 49 years. During those years he served in many capacities including Post Commander, Membership Chairman, Finance Officer, and held a seat on the Board of Directors; holding each position for several years. He also served as the Chautauqua County American Legion Commander from 1994 to 1995 and as a Personal Aide to the District Commander. Tim was also a life member of the Lake Chautauqua Memorial VFW Post 8647. He served as a trustee on the Mayville Village Board for 21 years where he also held the position of Deputy Mayor for several years. Tim further showed his dedication to his community by serving as Chairman of the Chautauqua County July 4th Celebration Committee for 38 years, providing the traditional parade, festival, and fireworks that Mayville is known for. Tim enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, the New York Yankees, and Nascar. He collected coins and two-dollar bills, and loved watching his kids and grandkids play in their sporting events. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita Rosage Jacobson, whom he married June 16, 1990, in Mayville at St. Mark Lutheran Church, and two daughters, Amy (John Near) Raynor of Bemus Point, NY, and Jennifer (Brian) Stanton of Mayville, NY, five grandchildren, Cody Jacobson, Brady (Andrea) Raynor, Gage (Jennica Hawley) Milliman, Sydney (Alex Nusom) Milliman, and Taylyn Stanton, six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Nickalis, Brina, Jackson, Lincoln, and Maddux Henry, two brothers, Robert D. Barnes of Mayville, NY and Michael H. (Betty) Barnes of Mayville, NY, one cousin, Brenda Beehler of Brocton, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was also very close with his brothers and sisters in law, Roberta Rosage, John and Darlene Harper, Martin and Patricia Whetstone, Gary and Susan Bennett, Kay Priest and Wendy Rosage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Barry D. Jacobson and his sister, Jennifer C. Maddux. The funeral will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at St Mark Lutheran Church in Mayville, NY (20 E. Marvin St.). The Rev. Gail Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery where military honors will be given by the Chautauqua County American Legion Color Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 24, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St). |
