Mary Louise Horton, 86, of Fredericksburg died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital. Mary was a graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, New York. A "Rosie the Riveter" Mary welded airplanes at Rome Air Depot in Rome, New York during WWII and worked often operating lathes and milling machines. She owned and operated Mary's Spiders Web in the Fredericksburg area for may years. Survivors include her husband, Richard Edwin Horton, Sr. of Fredericksburg; six children, Lee John Smith of Mansfield, MA, Charles James Smith of Gaithersburg, MD, Richard Edwin Horton, Jr., of Fredericksburg, Carlene Marie Horton McWhirt of Fredericksburg, Gordon Eugene Horton of Woodville, AL, and Marilu Horton Henson of Buffalo Gap, SD; and 17 grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Edward Smith of Fredericksburg and Marshall Martin Horton of Winchester; her parents, Stephen DeForest Spencer and Myrtie Mary Crawe; five brothers, DeForest, Ivan, Albert, Buell, and Wesley; and two sisters, Norma and Grace. Services will be private. |
