About | Carl C. Russo, a Garden City High School teacher and Huntington Station resident, died Thursday at Huntington Hospital of cancer. He was 51. Born in the Bronx in 1944, he grew up in Bayville, and graduated in 1962 from Locust Valley High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education in 1968 from the former Emporia State College, now a university in Emporia, Kan. In college, he met his future wife, whom he married in 1968 before graduation. Alice Russo is a special education teacher in the Wantagh School District. Mr. Russo earned a master's degree in 1974 from Long Island University in Brookville. Courses that he taught had included architecture, wood and automobile shop and mechanical drawing. He had been at Garden City High School from 1968 until December, when his illness prevented him from working. He was an active member of the Nassau Technology Association, serving as its president in the 1970s. An avid fisherman, Mr. Russo had been a captain of the Tiderunner, a charter boat on Long Island Sound, since the late 1980s. He founded the Triple F Fishing Club in Huntington and the Huntington Captains' Association. He was a member of the Huntington Anglers Club and also founded the Garden City High School Anglers Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jason, of Baltimore, and Todd and Christopher, both of Huntington Station; a sister, Marietta Munoz of Bayville, and a brother, Frank Russo of Sacramento, Calif. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carl C. Russo Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 420, Huntington, NY 11743. A funeral mass was said Monday at St. Hugh's Roman Catholic Church in Huntington Station, and burial was in Pinelawn Memorial Park. (Source: Newsday 7/3/1996) |
