About | Cathleen A. Hart, 42, of Garden City, passed away surrounded by her family and friends after a 10 year battle with breast cancer. Born January 13, 1967, in Woodbury New York, she was the daughter of the late Lorraine and Howard Hart. Ms. Hart graduated from the Garden City Public Schools, class of 1984. She served in leadership positions in the High School, including class President. She enjoyed participating in the Garden City High School Band where she played the clarinet. The band trip to the Netherlands was one of the highlights of her high school career. She participated in the school’s exchange program in France and her experience camping with her French family in the south of France contributed to her lifelong love of travel abroad. A 1989 graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C., she highly valued her friendship with many of her classmates, visiting with them at “mini-reunions” at the beach in Rehobeth, Maryland and on the ski slopes in Vermont. She began her business career at Quick and Riley, eventually rising to the position of Vice President in the Marketing Department. Later, she served as Director of Marketing Strategy and Services for UBS Global Asset Management, Inc. While a long-time resident of Brooklyn Heights, she was on officer of the Junior League of Brooklyn. Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32, she spoke to women’s groups and wrote magazine articles encouraging young women to become advocates for their own health and to become educated about breast cancer. Ms. Hart followed in her mother’s footsteps, and contributed her time and energy to charitable organizations committed to the research and development of advanced treatments of cancer, including the Garden City Unit of the American Cancer Society. She is survived by five brothers and sisters - Susan, Janine, Christopher, Patricia, and Gene. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, whom she loved and spoiled - Katherine, Elizabeth, Caroline, Christopher, Courtney, Lindsey, Allison, Michelle, William, Anne, Thomas, Ashley and Richard. The family requests that memorial donations be made to The 7 of Harts Charitable Trust, c/o Patricia Nessler, 131 Weyford Terrace, Garden City, New York, 11530. |
