Joseph (Joe) Gary Figliola, (age 52), passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2016, in Alexandria, VA. He was born on June 21, 1963, in Schenectady, NY, to Joseph and Marie Figliola. Joe grew up in Scotia, NY, and graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC, and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He was awarded The Citadel's highest mathematics award, The George E. Reves Award for Superior Mathematical Ability and Outstanding Achievements. Joe continued his education, earning a Master of Science degree in Computer Systems Management from the University of Southern California. As a member of the U.S. Air Force, Joe was Chief of the System Design and Analysis Branch at Boerfink Mountain in Kaserne, Germany. There he was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal for meritorious service. Following his military service, Joe worked in the field of computer science in the Washington, D.C. area. At the time of his passing, he was a Computer Systems Manager for Digital Management, Inc. in Bethesda, MD. Joe loved supporting his sons' music and sports activities, hiking and camping in the Adirondacks and playing golf. Joe is survived by his sons, Joseph (Joey) C. Figliola and James (Jimmy) M. Figliola of Alexandria, VA; his former wife, Mary C. Figliola of Alexandria, VA; his parents, Joseph and Marie Figliola of Scotia, NY; his brother, Shayne (Guida) Figliola, of Austin, MN; and his neices, nephews, great nieces and nephews . Joe was preceded in death by his infant son, Stuart Michael Figliola. A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road, Alexandria, VA 22308 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 .In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association, James Madison University School of Music, or a charity of your choosing .
