February 22, 2005, Carl H. Fisher, 88, of Skaneateles, died February 22, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital. He was born in Skaneateles at the family home on Fisher Rd. He was a graduate of Skaneateles High School in 1932. He retired from Crucible Steel Co.after 42 years of service in the Syracuse Plant. He was elected mayor in 1972 and served continually until 1991. He was the President of the Onondaga County Mayors' and Municipal Office Association for several years. He was a member of the Legislative Committee of the New York Conference of Mayors for several years. He was a past president of the Skaneateles Fire Department and a member since 1955. He was a member of the Onondaga County Fire Police and New York State Fire Police Association. He helped organize the S.A.V.E.S. Ambulance and emergency service in Skaneateles in 1966. He was a member of the Skaneateles Presbyterian Church, the Auburn Memorial Hospital Association, a past Master of the Skaneateles Grange, a member of Skaneateles Historical Society and the Skaneateles and Sennett Seniors Club. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rowena; two daughters, Judy (Michael) Welling of Lake Placid, Florida and Donna (Timothy) Princehorn of Franklin, TN; and a son, Russell (Diane) of Marcellus; seven grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Skaneateles First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 tp 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, 49 Jordan St., Skaneateles. In lieu of flower, contributions may be made to the Skaneateles First Presbyterian Church, Skaneateles Fire Department or S.A.V.E.S. |
