About | SHELBY - Ms. Gloria Teretha Lowe Harper, courageously departed this life on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at The University of Arkansas Medical Science Hospital in Little Rock. She was born December 24, 1958, in Cleveland County, to Doreatha Black Lowe and the late Fred Lowe Sr. Gloria was a graduate of Crest High School and continued her studies at Cleveland Community College, receiving an Associate Arts Degree. She was employed with Community and Schools as a site coordinator. She formerly worked at Jefferson Elementary School. Gloria was a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church where she was a chairperson for the political action committee and she continued her political activism working on the campaigns for Willie McIntosh and Richard Hooker. Her community involvement also extended to her involvement as a member of the Today's Ebonites. Gloria adored children and was an advocate for them. She will be remembered for being a peacemaker, her tenacity, and strong will. Throughout her illness, she never stopped planning and fighting and she smiled through all the pain. Her father, Fred Lowe Sr. preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Doreatha Lowe of Shelby; one son, Ray Edward III (Shauntona) of Gastonia; two daughters Sara Harper and Caroline Harper, both of Shelby; stepdaughters, Teresa Vincent (DJ) of Greensboro, and Sharon McGuire of Shelby; three brothers, Freddie Lowe of Hickory, Harold Lowe (Lydia) of Charlotte, and Rosevelt (Lisa) of Shelby; seven sisters, Brenda Allison of Shelby, Linda Sloan, and Beatrice Webber (David), all of Shelby, Patricia Frederick (Ray) of Durham, Gladys Patterson (Quinton) of Charlotte, Cassandra Kelly (Leroy) of Forest City, and Ginger Lowe of Shelby; her former husband, Ray Harper Sr.; three grandchildren, Camaria Oglesby, Chelsea Oglesby and Jeremiah Harper; special friends, Jennie Poston, Margaret Hicks and Kim Matheny and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other friends. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20.
