About | Barbara Dale Speight, 71, of Wilson, passed on January 21st after a several months battle with cancer. She had her family and friends by her side and several gatherings of family and neighbors had recently occurred in her honor. She will be truly missed. The visitation will be Friday, 4:00-6:00 pm at Wilson Memorial Service, and other times at the home of her sister, Cathy. Dale was born New Year’s Eve 1952 to Spurgeon and Mildred Allen Speight and resided in “Speight Town” north of Wilson for her first fourteen years. After moving to Newport, in the Morehead City area, she became the head cheerleader and graduated from West Carteret High School. Many of her classmates remained close friends for the rest of her life. After graduating from Pitt Technical Institute, she later worked at Firestone, Carolina Forge and Diversified Opportunities of Wilson. Throughout her life Dale enjoyed many things, among them were bowling, softball and fishing during beach trips with family and friends. Anyone who knew her knew of her love of four-legged “fur babies.” Dale leaves behind longtime partner K.K. Brown; daughter, Trisha Bass of Avon; grandsons, Jackson of Wilson and Brendan Zitz of Myrtle Beach; sister, Cathy Speight of Elm City; brother, Bob Speight (Ellen) of Winterville and sister-in-law, Margie Speight of Florida, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Spurgeon, mother, Mildred Burton and brother, Al Speight. |
