About | Carole Ann Gibbs Dowty, 63, a native and longtime resident of Morehead City, entered peacefully into Heaven on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. She fought a courageous fight against cancer during the last year of her life. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. She was born Feb. 20, 1952, to the late Henry Sylvester “H.S.” Gibbs Jr. and Anne Gillikin Gibbs. After graduating from West Carteret High School in 1970, she attended Peace College in Raleigh for two years. She was admitted to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1972 and graduated in 1974 with a B.S. degree in dental hygiene. She worked for 10 years in the Morehead City dental office of Dr. Walter White. She then joined the family firm of Chalk and Gibbs, where she was a Realtor for many years. She later worked in the insurance department of the firm. She retired in 2006 to enjoy spending time with her daughter and many friends, traveling on Carnival cruises, attending Carolina football and basketball games, and going to Shackleford Banks or the beach at Oceanana Pier. As an adult, she was a great supporter of students at West Carteret High School through her volunteer work for the WCHS Band program. She served as president of the Band Boosters organization from 1993-95. She was also a driving force in establishing and administering a college scholarship for WCHS seniors, given by her graduating Class of 1970. Many friends and children of her friends have enjoyed her special gift of always remembering birthdays and anniversaries with a card or phone call. She was a loyal and true friend, always calling and organizing many special times together. Her strength of character, her sweet smile and her outgoing, friendly personality will be sorely missed by all. Rest in peace, Ms. Blondie! She is survived by her beloved daughter, Meredith Dowty Hall, her husband Kevin and their newborn son, Marshall Henry. Also surviving is her brother, Henry Len Gibbs, his wife Marie and their children, Chelsea and Dharma, father of great-niece Violet. In addition, she is survived by her mother, Anne. |
