About | Joseph Weirick SANDUSKY: Joseph O. Weirick, 81, of Sandusky, died Monday, October 25, 2010 at Firelands Regional Medical Center. Born July 4, 1929 in Ashland, he was the son of Cloyd Weirick and Mildred (Oliver) Straits. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1949 and went on to receive his Bachelor Degree from Ashland University. Joseph also attended many banking schools graduating from the University of Virginia, Ohio University and Ohio State University. He played fast pitch softball for Ashland Police. in Ashland prior to entering the service in 1954. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, Joseph worked at Richland Bank for 38 years as a Vice-President. A member of the First Christian Church, he was also a member of the American Legion in Ashland, Korean War Veterans in Mansfield, and a former member of the Buckeye Boosters. Joseph also played slow pitch and was one of the first five players to be voted into the Mansfield Hall of Fame. Joseph was also an avid fan of Ohio State football and Cincinnati Reds. He is survived by his wife whom he married December 16, 1951, Marilyn J. (Stover) Weirick; children, Joseph K. Weirick of Mansfield, and David M. (Amy) Weirick of Columbus; grandchildren, Derek Weirick of Mansfield, and Michael and Jacob Weirick of Columbus; sister, Julia (Richard) Norris of Ashland; brother-in-law, Richard Norris of Ashland; sister-in-law, Shirley (Tom) Vogel of Ashland; nieces and nephews, Steve Norris of Columbus, Tom and Deb Vogel, Dan Vogel, and Jeff and Kim Vogel, all of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 200 W. Third St., Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Chris Whitehead. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund. |
