About | It is with profound sadness, tempered only by the certainty of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we announce the falling asleep in the Lord of the servant of God, Shirley A. Martin (Lydia), 80, of Naples, Nov. 20, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio December 28, 1941, to the late Bennie and Mae McQueen Byrd, Shirley attended Batavia High School where she met Lonnie (Linus) her husband of 62 years. They have three children, Dennis Martin of Naples, Gregory Martin and Amy Italiano, husband Daniel of Blue Ridge, GA. Grand children, Joshua Higgins, wife Lindsay of Naples, Matthew Martin, wife Ashley of Naples, Elijah Higgins of Naples, Anna Italiano, husband Drew Dillard of Blue Ridge, GA, John Italiano of Blue Ridge, GA, John Martin of Naples, Luke Italiano, Andrew Italiano, Jude Martin of Blue Ridge, GA and Kimberly Martin of Live Oak. Great Grandchildren, Hailey & Henry Higgins and Aubrey Martin of Naples. She is also survived by her niece Susan Byrd DeVoe, husband Don and nephew Eugene Byrd, wife Tara along with many beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Eugene Byrd and Wayne Byrd, sister Bonnie Byrd, nephew Jason Byrd. Shirley loved the Lord, was caring and compassionate and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she enjoyed cooking for her family, taught herself to play hymns on the piano and had a beautiful alto voice, harmonizing in trios and praise teams for many years. She enjoyed secondhand shopping, decorating and furnishing cabins in the North Georgia mountains. Services will be held at St. Paul Orthodox Christian Church, 2425 Rivers Rd, Naples, FL 34120, Saturday Nov. 26, Viewing 9:30AM, Funeral Service 10:00AM. Burial at St. Stephen the Protomartyr (Antiochian) Orthodox Christian Church in Hiram, GA.
