BELLVILLE: When work, commitment, and pleasure all become one and you reach that deep well where passion lives, nothing is impossible. An amazing husband and father, John Whatman cared for and supported his family, was blessed to work as partner along his father's side and even headlined a rock band. Because of his passion, John was blessed with so many great moments in life. Even while living with pancreatic cancer for over two years, John's faith and passion remained constant. Leaving a legacy of strength, commitment and love, John L. Whatman passed away Tuesday evening December 20, 2011. He was 49.

John was born August 17, 1962 in Mansfield the son of Charles and Charlot (Maglott) Whatman and was graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1980.

Always hardworking and motivated, in John's early 20's he began working along side his father, Charles, as a realtor and auctioneer for Whatman Realtors and Auctioneers. The two worked together, side by side building their company in the Richland County area.

John also loved music, especially rock music. He could sing anything from Elvis to current rock ballads. From his high school days John had been the lead singer for the locally known rock band, Aesthesia. John's main passions were music and farming.

John loved animals and could always be seen with one of his six dogs by his side.

He was also an avid sports fan, particularly fond of his Cleveland Browns, Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

He attended Clear Fork Alliance Church. John was selfless, someone who would do anything to help. He often volunteered his time as an auctioneer for good causes. His smile was contagious and his personality always made for good laughs.

John is survived by his loving wife Sondra (Tuttle) Whatman; daughter Christyna Whatman; parents Charles and Charlot Whatman; brothers Tim (Janet) Whatman and Tom Whatman; nephew Derek (Megan) Whatman; and a step-son Brandon Thompson all of Bellville.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert and Opal Whatman and Glenn and Lois Maglott, and a special aunt Bertha Haun.

The family will receive friends today, Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Friday from 10am to 11am in the funeral home where funeral services will begin at 11am. The Rev. Dr. Michael V. Stine will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to The Sanctuary for Senior Dogs be made through the funeral home.
