About | George A. Maurer, 94, of Wellington, died Saturday, August 10, 2024, at The Echelon of Medina. He was born on June 27, 1930, in Geneva, Ohio, to the late Dr. J.E. and Helen (Momeyer) Maurer. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1948, and The Ohio State University, in 1956. George was a stockbroker with Wachovia Securities, serving as Sr. Vice President. He served his country as part of the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. An avid golfer, George was a former member of Spring Valley Country Club, the Elyria Country Club, where he was also a member of the O.B. Club, and Stonebridge Country Club, in Naples, Florida. He was also a 50-year member of the Wellington Lodge, First United Methodist Church, member for over 60 years, former member of the Wellington Exempted Village School Board, and Life member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. George is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty (Bates) Maurer; children, Steven (Marcee) Maurer and Jane O'Brien; grandchildren, Matthew Maurer, Brittany Maurer Cline (Ben), Kevin O'Brien (Jenna), and Corey O'Brien; great grandchildren, Madison Maurer, Mackenzie Maurer, Grady Cline, Cody Cline, and Sheridan O'Brien. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard (Helen) Maurer, and David (Marlene) Maurer. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, August 15, 2024, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. Internment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington with military honors. |
