About | Martha Leigh Demshar, 81, of Jefferson passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland where she spent her last few days with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born December 24, 1941, in Elkhart, Indiana, the daughter of the late Donald and Julia (Grozdanich) Souers. Martha graduated from Geneva High School and from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree. She married the love of her life Gabe Demshar, Jr., on August 26, 1960. Martha served as a Jefferson Township Trustee for many years and was a founding sponsor of the Jefferson Area Girls Softball League (JAGS). Martha enjoyed being an active member of the Jefferson Community along with her husband. Martha loved animals and could often be found watching and enjoying nature on her property on Jefferson-Eagleville Rd. or having a conversation with her Parrot "Baby" who was a companion of hers for over 40 years. Mrs. Demshar is survived by her children, Julie (Roy) Stainfield, and G. Darrin (Robyn) Demshar; sisters, Nancy Bentley, and Donna Clarkson; grandchildren, Bryan and Andrew Stainfield and Vincent Demshar. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Gabe; son, Theodore "Toby" Demshar; sisters, Sandra Maltby, Mary Theilan, Linda Lines, and Debra Tackas; her parents; and numerous pets she raised over the years. At her request a private graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
