About | George Robert “Bob” Powers, 81, of Perrysburg, formerly of Genoa, Ohio, died in St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. Bob was born in Toledo, Ohio, to the late George G. and Bessie (Sampson) Powers on April 15, 1926. On September 9, 1950, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, he married Audrey Marsh and she survives. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Genoa High School; and after serving in the Navy during WWII from 1944-46, he graduated from Ohio State University's School of Architecture. Bob was a registered architect for 40 years and had worked for Buehrer & Stough Architects and Engineers in Toledo and Smith, Hinchman & Grills Architects and Engineers in Detroit. Some of his local projects included St. John’s UCC in Genoa, Genoa Bank, the Genoa library, and the addition on Trinity United Methodist Church in Genoa, where he had been a past member. He was past president of the Construction Specification Institute and was one of the founders of the Toledo chapter. For 39 years Bob served on the Board of Directors at the Genoa Bank and was President Emeritus of the bank board. Bob was an avid OSU Buckeye fan and enjoyed golf, bridge and traveling. In addition to his wife, Audrey, Bob is survived by his sons, Jerry (Bonnie) Powers of Phoenix, AZ, Dan (Maureen) Powers of Kissimmee, FL, Tim (Beth) Powers of Newark, and Jim (Jean) Powers of Pemberville; daughter, Diane Lau of Perrysburg; and six grandchildren, Joe Powers, Jonathon Powers, Joshua Powers, Jennifer Lau, Stephanie Lau, and Andrea Powers. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward (Delores) Powers of San Antonio, TX, and Galen (Betty) Powers of Rochester, NY. His parents, sister, Nancy McKenzie, and loving step mother, Theresa Powers, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 Main St., Genoa, on Friday, December 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services from 10-11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Way Public Library, Perrysburg, Trinity United Methodist Church, Genoa, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
