Bruce A. Gackstetter, 58, of Curtice, Ohio passed away suddenly on November 11, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. He was born on September 12, 1953, in Toledo to George and Lucille (Kreager) Gackstetter. Bruce was a 1971 graduate of Genoa Area High School. He was a car enthusiast, from racing to collecting models. Bruce worked as a paver/operator for H.W. Bergman. He was an active member of Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral where he served as a lector and volunteered for events for many years. During his last months, he spent as much time as possible with his grandchildren in Raleigh, NC. Bruce was a compassionate person who also would always take care of another person before himself, as shown in the last few months of life. Bruce is survived by his loving wife; of 35 years, Roxanne, sons; Brian (Jami) Gackstetter and Chase Gackstetter, grandchildren; Matthew, McKenzie, and Tristan and mother; Lucille Gackstetter. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Alyssa and father; George. Bruce's legacy lives on with his family and with his Gift of Sight through his eye donation. Friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon (419) 693-9304, on Tuesday, from 2-8 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at the Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral at 12 noon where the family will greet friends one hour prior to mass. Burial will follow in Allen Township Cemetery in Williston. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to the Alyssa Gackstetter Genoa High School Memorial Scholarship or The Bruce Gackstetter Grandchildren's Scholarship Fund at any Genoa Bank branch |
