Darryl "Big D" R. Fondessy, 65, of Genoa, Ohio died Saturday, March 10, 2012 in his residence. Darryl was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 7, 1946 to Donald & Doras (Barkhau) Fondessy. He married Susan M (Swartz) in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Oregon, Ohio, on May 9, 1969 and she survives. Darryl was a truck driver for many years, working most recently for D & R Enterprises of Genoa. He also worked for Metropolitan Trucking, Fondessy Enterprises, and Waste Management of Northwood, Ohio. Darryl was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. He also belonged to American Legion Post #324 of Genoa, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Genoa. Darryl loved his family and friends and spent as much time with them as he could. When he came home from being on the road, he wanted nothing more than to spend time with those he loved. Friday night "happy hour" was always a fun time at the Fondessy home and many cars could be found in the driveway. Darryl was the secretary-treasurer of the "Posse", an informal group of friends that he enjoyed spending time with. Darryl was always a car enthusiast, whether it be working on one or attending a NASCAR event or car show. Survivors of Darryl include his wife Susan, daughters, Lori (Doug) Novotney, Cindy (Mike) Lemke, all of Genoa, granddaughters, Emily and Maggie Novotney, and sister, Karen (Lyle) Schlievert. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 S. Main St. Genoa, OH. Immediately following the Mass the family invites everyone to join them for a meal and fellowship in the church hall. Visitation will be held in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St. Genoa, OH, from 2-8 PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Interment will be private. The family suggests that memorial contributions for Darryl be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551 or the A.C.J.F.D. Station #3, 6th Street, Genoa, OH.
