Dennis "Dewey" R. Iffland, 38, of Williston, Ohio, died Friday, June 29, 2007, in his residence. Dewey was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 29, 1968, to Richard "Dick" G. and Lynn (Scharer) Iffland. He was employed, for the last 10 years, by the Toledo Public School System as a teacher and Computer Lab Coordinator, currently working at the Oakdale Middle School. Prior Dewey had worked for the Van Wert and Tinora school systems. Dewey graduated from Genoa Area High School, class of 1986 and went on to obtain his Bachelors degree in education from Defiance College. He completed his Masters degree at the University of Toledo. He currently was assisting with the "Gear Up" program through the Toledo Public Schools and Bowling Green State University. Dewey was a member of the Theta XI fraternity at Defiance College and an active member of the Cooley Canal Yacht Club where he was a former board member. Dewey enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling, whitewater rafting, and following his nephews in their athletic activities. He also was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan, and an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Survivors include his parents, Dick and Lynn of Clay Center; brothers, Terry (Norma) Iffland of Dublin, Ohio, Bruce Iffland of Gibsonburg, Ohio; his nephews, Trent and Tyler Iffland; aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Hazel Iffland and Oscar and Connie Scharer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Zion United Methodist Church, Elliston, Ohio, followed by interment in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa, Ohio. Visitation will be conducted in the Robinson - Walker Funeral Home, 501 West St. Genoa, Ohio, from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 2 and on Tuesday, July 3, from 2-8 p.m. Cooley Canal Yacht Club will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home. There will be no visitation on Wednesday July 4, 2007. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions, in Dewey's memory, be to the Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation, the Leist Scholarship Fund at Zion United Methodist Church, or the Cooley Canal Yacht Club, all in care of the funeral home |
