About | Frederick John Zunk, 86, of Oak Harbor, OH, loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, passed away December 18, 2010, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. Fred was born May 12, 1924, in Curtice, Ohio. He was the son of Frederick H. and Anna (Yone) Zunk. Fred graduated from Genoa High School, where he excelled in academics and was a natural leader as Captain of the football team. While working full time, Fred attended night school for advanced studies to obtain his "operator" license. Then, after nearly 40 years of dedicated service, Fred retired from the Operations Department at Sun Oil Corporation in Toledo, OH. Fred proudly served his Country and is a United States Navy Veteran; a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 9789 W. Oak Harbor S.E., County Road # 17, Oak Harbor, OH; and a member the American Legion Post 114, Oak Harbor, OH. A particular highlight in recent years was a trip back to Camp Miakonda, where he spent time as a young boy scout back in the 1930's, earning his scout badges and learning the scout principles which he lived his life by every day. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with nature. He taught his friends and family to have a healthy respect for each. In addition to his loving wife, Lucille A. (Lorensen) Zunk of 61 years, Fred is survived by his six children: daughter, Barbara Zunk, son, Dennis (Jeanie) Zunk, daughter, Deborah Zunk, daughter, Susanne Zunk, daughter, Cynthia Zunk and son, Timothy (Janet) Zunk; three grandchildren: Heath (Mary) Sindeldecker, Dustin Sindeldecker and Garret Zunk; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Nelson, Fladgit, Earl and James "Bud" Zunk and sisters: Gladys Zitzman and Margaret Hierholzer. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Oak Harbor S.E., County Road # 17, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449. • Viewing Hour: Thursday, December 23, 2010, 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with church services immediately following. Final Resting Place will be Oakwood Cemetery on Brown Road in Jerusalem Township, Curtice, OH, with military graveside services conducted. Bereavement Gathering will be held back at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 9789 W. Oak Harbor S.E., County Road # 17, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449, following interment.
