About | Georgia “Dordie” A. Felbinger, 93, of Genoa, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 28, 2010, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, following a short illness. She was the youngest of ten children born to George and Evalyn Dunn on January 12, 1917, in Genoa, Ohio. Dordie was a graduate of Genoa High School and the Toledo Beauty Academy, where she trained to be a beautician. In 1940 she married Alvin W. Felbinger and together they built, owned, and managed Felbinger’s Grill and Dairy Bar on Main Street in Genoa. Dordie was an excellent cook and pie baker for the restaurant over a period of 39 years when they retired. Dordie was always an athlete, having been on the girls’ Varsity basketball team and track team in high school and bowled with her “Dunn family bowling league” in Genoa starting at a young age. She was discovered and recruited by the “Toledo Blade Queen’s Traveling League” in the 40’s and bowled with that league all through the 50’s and 60’s, winning many trophies for being on championship teams. Some of the sponsors were Irv Pollac Lincoln-Mercury, the Bungalow Restaurant, and Walker Furniture. In her youth Dordie was quite an entertainer and used to dance the “Charleston,” sing, and yodel on stage at the Genoa Town Hall for competitive variety shows in the 20’s. She was also a great pinochle player, having started as a young girl with her family. In her senior years she played at the Genoa Senior Center and with the Rocky Ridge players. She was a member of the Genoa Social Club for many years and the Genoa Trinity United Methodist Church, being the longest living registered member of the church on record. Through her married life, Dordie and Al enjoyed their time fishing on Lake Erie in their boats and trips to Florida with their camper-trailer. Dordie was very loving and devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. She is survived by her son, Alvin W. “Cork” (Frances A.) Felbinger, Jr. of Elmore and daughter, Beverly A. (Dr. Michael J.) Porter of Toledo; grandchildren, Kirk, Kent and Craig Felbinger, Jennifer VanDeVoorde, Michael Porter, Jr. and Daniel J. Porter; and great grandchildren, Zane, Grant, Olivia, Quinn, Cory and Courtney. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters, May Dunn, Floss Knowles, Susan Garey and Evelyn Hammon, and brothers, Earl, John, Kenneth, Harold and Claire Dunn. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, in Trinity United Methodist Church, 303 Main St., Genoa, with an additional hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow in Clay Township Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Georgia may be given to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire Dist. #3, Genoa, the church, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. |
