About Melba Irene Johnson Hahn Schulte, 95, of Genoa, OH died Saturday, May 13, 2006 at her residence surrounded by family. She was born on September 22, 1910, in Genoa to Nelson F. and Eva Marie (Shessler) Johnson. She graduated from Genoa High School in 1929. She lived her whole life on the Johnson family homestead which has been in the family since 1852 and has covered four generations. Melba married Norman Hahn in 1930 and he died in 1958. She married Edward Schulte in 1962 and he died in 1983. Melba worked as a secretary for the Genoa Public Library and for the Woodville School System for a number of years.
Melba attended the Genoa Christian Church, the Genoa United Methodist Church and then the Woodville United Brethren Church which was later named the Woodville United Methodist Church. She joined the Genoa Grange in 1924 and was a member of the Grange Ladies Club. She was also an advisor for the 4-H Sewing Club for several years, member of the Ottawa County Farm Bureau and UNFO. She was also very active in the Genoa Senior Center and she just recently received the Ottawa County Senior Hall of Fame Award for outstanding contributions as a volunteer to the community and senior centers of Ottawa County.
Melba is survived by a son, Gary Lee (Mary) Hahn of Genoa; daughter, Barbara Ann (Elmer) Terrell of Woodville; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Woodville United Methodist Church, Woodville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Genoa. Interment will be in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Woodville United Methodist Church or Solomon Lutheran School.
