About | Monette Croll, 70, of Elmore, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. She was born on August 18, 1941 in Boaz, Alabama, a daughter of Leslie & Irene (Underwood) Benefield. On December 7, 1963, she married James P. Croll and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2012. Monette was a 1959 graduate of Genoa Area High School. She was an operator in Genoa for the former Northern Ohio Telephone Company, and worked for a time for the Ohio Turnpike Commission. For many years, Monette ran the cafeteria at the Brush Wellman (now Materion) Plant near Elmore, retiring in 1995. She was an active member of St. Paul-Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore, where she was a member and former president of the United Methodist Women, and head of the funeral luncheon committee. She also was the chairperson for the Nurture Outreach Committee and was the church representative to the Friendly Center in Toledo. She was the secretary-treasurer of the American Legion Post 279 Auxiliary for many years. Monette enjoyed painting, especially on china, and was a great cook and baker, being especially known for her pies. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending every sporting event and activity that she could. Monette is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Lisa) Croll and Trish Croll, all of Elmore; grandchildren, Nicholas, Dakota, and Elijah Croll; brothers, Kenneth (Sharon) Benefield, Genoa, Larry Benefield, Gibsonburg, Ohio, Ronald (Leila) Benefield, Oak Harbor, Ohio; sisters, Elaine (George) Gerkensmeyer, Elmore, Patsy Helmici, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Chriss Benefield, Birmingham, Alabama, and Rebecca (Joseph) Hoffman, Elmore, Ohio She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Timothy Croll, brother, Michael Benefield, and sister Sheila Jensen. Interment services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 A.M. Saturday at St. Paul-Trinity United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday with the Rev. Melissa Steinecker officiating. Following the services, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Elmore American Legion Hall, 345 Sherman St., Elmore. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul-Trinity United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore-Genoa Chapel is handling arrangements. |
