Sandra Mildred (Rate) Miekis, 45, of Curtice, Ohio, died unexpectedly in her home on Monday, November 5, 2007. Sandra was born on August 22, 1962, in Oregon, Ohio, to Virginia M. Rate and Richard Kalmbach. Sandy was a 1979 graduate of Genoa Area High School and received an associate degree in nursing from Owens Technical School in 1983. She married Kevin Miekis, the love of her life, on February 22, 1991. Sandy loved being a nurse and worked at several area hospitals, including Medical College of Ohio Hospital, and nursing homes, until her health prevented her from caring for others. She enjoyed gardening, boating and spending time with her husband and children. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Surviving are her loving husband, Kevin; children, Sarah and Alex; mother, Virginia M. Rate; brothers, Gordon and Charles (Deb) Rate; sisters, Wendy (George) Kimble and Virginia (Steve) Hopper; sisters-in-law, Renee (Doug) Bowman, Patti (Keith) Turco, Brenda (Dave) Kreger; father-in-law, Dale (Joyce) Miekis and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions in Sandra's memory may be made to the Children's Services Unit of the Ottawa County Department of Jobs and Family Services |
