About | HOWLAND — Elizabeth “Bette” Champ, 72, of Howland, entered eternal life Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at home, with her loving family at her side. She was born July 30, 1945, in Girard, to the late Meyer and Hannah Noderer. Elizabeth was married on June 3, 1967, to her lifelong best friend, Philip J. Champ. She is survived by her husband, Philip; two children, Stephen Champ of Niles and Rachel Morataya of Howland; three grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nana,” Miley Champ, Dominic and Gianna Morataya, all of Howland; three sisters, all of whom called her “Bette Kay,” Margaret “Peggy” Vaughan of Arlington Heights, Ill., Joyce (Ron) Couts of Longwood, Fla., and Marcia (Robert) Kane of Champion; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Elizabeth worked as a kindergarten teacher, where she dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing children that she cherished for 43 years. She loved the beach and traveling with family, but her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. She was a member of Howland United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Howland United Methodist Church, where visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Howland Township Cemetery. Material contributions may be made either to Hospice of the Valley or Howland United Methodist Church.
