About | Richard A. "Ric" Roe of Huber Heights, passed away unexpectedly May 10, 2014 at the age of 54. Ric was born in Dayton, Ohio, May 31, 1959, the son of the late Omar and Betty (Hawkins) Roe. A 1977 graduate from Fairmont East High School, Ric went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Theatre Arts from Eastern Michigan University. He later attained two Masters’ degrees; one in Education from the University of Dayton and another in Theater from Northwestern University. From 1982 – 1987, Ric served as the Managing Director of The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and served as a consultant for many theater and arts associations and productions. Ric left the Dayton area and moved to Chicago to work as the Theater Manager for Northwestern University’s Department of Theatre. Ric was well known for his achievements in teaching and coaching Speech and Debate teams, both on the high school and college levels. Many of his students were award winning speakers at National Speech Tournaments. Ric had a passion for teaching. His tenure of teaching included Northwestern University, various high school speech camps and most recently, upon his return to Ohio, Sinclair Community College. Ric is survived by two sisters: Theresa (Mike) Milligan of Huber Heights, Kimberly J. Roe of Peoria, IL; Nieces and Nephews; Robert, Brian (Jennifer) Schroeder, Malory, Lindsey, Tyler Milligan and Jackson Roe. Great-Nieces and Nephews; Chase, Rylee, Austin, Carlee, and Aylssa Schroeder. Ric was also known for his love and devotion to his companion, “Snoop” a very special Jack Russell Terrier who was by his side at the time of his death. Snoop, never wanting to be far from Ric, passed away a few days later to join Ric for eternity. Ric will be greatly missed by his family, friends and students. |
