| About | Robert B. Brown, 71, lost his courageous bout with the Corona Virus on Wednesday December 16, 2020 at OhioHealth Mansfield ICU. Bob was born on March 25, 1949 In Mansfield, Ohio to Berlin and Edith D. Brown. His father was a huge Cleveland Indians fan and Bob Feller was his favorite player, thus Bob got his name. A 1968 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Bob served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sargeant, serving overseas in Okinawa. Upon returning to the States, he was a radar instructor in Kansas until he was discharged. He received numerous medals such as the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 1st Award, and the M-14 Rifle Expert Badge. He went on to graduate from North Central Technical College in 1977 with a degree in Law Enforcement. He then served on the New Washington Police Department as an Assistant Police Chief and then as a Corrections Officer at the Ohio State Reformatory before finishing his career at Mansfield Correctional Institute (MANCI), retiring in 2011. An incredible marksman, especially with handguns, Bob enjoyed going to the shooting range regularly where he both practiced and instructed others in both shooting and weapons maintenance. He was known as a brilliant instructor. An avid reader, Bobby read thousands of books on various topics and could converse in many areas such as the human body and the science of the universe. Bob is survived by a son Matthew Lee McCrea; step-daughter Cyndi Edwards and 4 other step children; grandson Guy Mitchell and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. He is also survived by his brothers John and Ralph Brown of Mansfield, Marvin of Greenville, NC and his sister Clara of Avon. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara E. Brown; parents, Berlin and Edith; nephew Thomas and his brother Cecil and an infant brother Harold. |
| Events | A graveside service for Bob will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 in Oak Grove Memorial Park beginning at 11 am. Pastor TJ Waters will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the Bellville American Legion Post #535. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date. A true Jarhead Leatherneck till the end, Bob fought the virus on a ventilator for 18 days, and even fought for an additional 9 hours and 36 minutes after being removed from the machines.
