About | Albert Roemer Tyson, 87 7 Sep 1923 - 25 Jul 2011 Amherst High School - Class of 1941 "Albert Roemer Tyson, 87 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at Lake Point Health Care in Lorain following a on going battle with cancer. He was born September 7, 1923, in Lorain, Ohio. Albert was raised in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1941. He had lived in Lorain and Cleveland before moving to Vermilion where he had made his home since 1984. Albert was employed at Thew Shovel in Lorain and at Merika and Company for over twenty years before retiring as a bookkeeper. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion where he served as a Eucharist minister to the shut-ins, a reader at mass and enjoyed the time he spent caring for the church grounds. Albert volunteered at the Lorain Catholic Charity Society. He enjoyed spending time with his friends attending opera's. His hobbies included music and gardening. Albert had an amazing memory and was able to recall sections of Shakespeare that he had learned as a young man. Survivors include his nephews Edward Long, M.D. And his wife Linda of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Long of Lorain and his niece Holly J. Long and her husband Richard Dvorscak of Lorain; twelve great nieces and nephews and fourteen great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his companion of fifty-six years Robert W. Richards in 2006; his niece Linda Lee Roark in 1995; his sister Janice E. Long in 1994; and by his father Herman Tyson in 1953; his mother Alma M. Tyson -Breckenridge (nee: Roemer) in 1981; and by his step father Elmer Breckenridge in 1975. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Graveside Services was held privately by the family Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion. The Rev. Fr. Ron Brickner, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, will officiate.
