About | DeLand – Warren Leis Hammon, 84, formerly of Miamisburg, Ohio, went home to meet the Lord Nov. 25, 2024, peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with neuroendocrine cancer of the liver. Warren was born June 5, 1940, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, to Helen and Howard Hammon. Warren was a very kind and gentle man with a friendly smile. After graduating from High School, he joined the Air Force and spent four years in service. He worked at Krug International Technology Systems Division of the Information International Association at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and later as a researcher at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base northeast of Dayton. Warren relocated to DeLand, Florida in 2002 and married lifelong friend, Janet Raney on November 22, 2003. He was an active member of DeBary Golf and Country club for 15 years, and enjoyed playing golf with his buddies three or four times weekly. Warren served as the state treasurer for the Florida Council for Exceptional Children, as a member of the Southwestern Middle School Advisory Council, and as CEO for JanWar Educational Consultants prior to retirement. While in DeLand, he became a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Howard Hammon and his former loving spouse, Phyllis Hapner Hammon. Warren is survived by his wife, Janet Raney; his beloved sister, Judith Scarborough Dunay (Joe), of Alpharetta, Georgia; his daughter, Tracy Nolan of Seymour, Indiana; stepsons James Hapner (Nancy) of Orlando, Howard Pelphrey of Yukon, Oklahoma, Donald Pelphrey of Deltona, and Jan-Marcus Mathew Dutton of Deltona; granddaughters Ryan Heaton of Orlando, Cory Heaton of Clermont, Alicia Black of Winter Springs, Mina Kopsa of Sanford, Arianna Dutton of Deltona, Shayla Kopsa of Deland, grandsons, Charles McMahan Hapner of West Palm Beach, and Alexander Pelphrey of DeLeon Springs. |
