Sherman Brock Jr. Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1973
Date of Passing May 15, 2016
About One of a kind, Sherman Brock Jr., age 61, of Edison, went to be with the Lord, Sunday evening, May 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

On March 12, 1955, Sherman was born in Harlan, Kentucky, one of five children of the late Sherman Brock Sr. and Archie (Slusher) Brock Saylor. After his father passed away when Sherman was young, Archie married Herman Saylor, and added two more daughters to the family. Then, in 1965, they moved to Mount Gilead, when Sherman was in the 6th grade. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the class of 1973.

Following high school, Sherman worked for the Marion Power Shovel. Next, he worked at Grumman-Flxible, where he became one of their head quality inspectors traveling throughout the United States to inspect and try to improve the quality of their buses. He also worked at Rockwell International, providing the final inspection of their B-1 bombers.

A perfectionist and jack of all trades, Sherman was extremely intelligent with the ability to figure out how to make or fix anything. He especially enjoyed helping his family with all of their home projects, and would teach them everything he could about what they were working on.

An avid sports fan, Sherman loved watching NFL football and UK basketball. He also loved to swim, and had many stories of his swimming accomplishments.

Extremely outgoing, Sherman had a fun loving personality and could talk with anyone, no matter their walk in life. Sherman loved a good party, playing pool with his daughters, and playing euchre with the family. Most important of all to Sherman was his family. He loved them dearly.

Sherman is survived by three daughters: Brandi (Joe) Orsini, Stephanie (John) McDonough, and Selina (Ron Ruffner) Brock; five grandchildren: Gavin and Alayni Orsini, Derek and Dylan McDonugh, and Ronni Mae Ruffner; four sisters: Sharon (Bill) Rausch, Romona Harman, Lois (Rick) Millar, and Della (Raymond) Busse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Sherman was preceded in death by his step-father, Herman Saylor; a sister, Virginia Wolford; and an infant brother, Danny Brock.

His family will greet friends from 11 am – 2 pm on Sunday, May 22, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will follow there at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Deel officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

Donations in Sherman’s memory could be made to any local food pantry, many of which he was grateful for their generosity.
