About | Roger W. Rhoades BARBERTON -- Roger W. Rhoades, 66, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 with his son and daughter-in-law at his side. Roger was born February 21, 1943. He graduated from Norton High School in 1961 and attended Bowling Green State University. He worked for Western Auto, managing the Norton and Cuyahoga Falls Stores. Roger was an avid golfer and played in several leagues. He was a member of the Barberton Moose, Sokol Club, Magic City Kiwanis, and the U.S.G.A. He was a long time volunteer at Santrock Elementary School. He taught the Junior Achievement Program and read with many children with the Ohio Reads Program. Even after those programs ended, Roger continued volunteering every Tuesday, reading to and being read to by third grade students. Charitable and civic causes were very important to him. Roger was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church his entire life. Roger was a devoted Christian who loved his church and his family and friends. His legacy is one of courage and selfless giving. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Kathleen Rhoades. He is survived by his wife, Barbie; his son, Phillip (Lisebeth) of Allen, Texas; sisters, Patricia Bogner (Michael), Jean Falor (John), Joan Rhoades, Sarah Roupe (Roy); nephews, Sean and Matt Bogner, Jason Falor, Lance Roupe and niece, Lisa Roupe. Private viewing and graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family. Visitation Monday 6 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 267 5th St. N.W., Barberton 44203 followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. with The Rev. George M. Tarsis officiating.
