David C. Hentzell, Sr. Obituary (1958 - 2005)

Graduation Year Class of 1976
Date of Birth Jul 21, 1958
Date of Passing Jul 09, 2005
About David was good guy and a great friend. He left far too soon, at the age of 48, I believe. I knew Dave since we were 2nd graders at Genoa. He lived on Leonard Avenue in Perry Heights and his parents were always nice to me. He had open-heart surgery at an early age. I still remember seeing the scar in gym class in the 2nd grade. I suppose his heart condition was his ultimate demise. He had been doing what he loved - playing with his dog in the back yard. His wife told me, "It was as though a light went out." Dave left behind a charming wife and raised three beautiful children before he left. I had the privilege of meeting them at his funeral. At Perry, Dave was a tenor in the Perry Pipers and a Perry Players cast member. Being practical jokers, we often played pranks on one another. It was amusing to see Dave get hopping mad, but never for long. He had an infectious sense of humor and knew how to take a joke. The last time I saw Dave was at the 1977 production of "No, No, Nanette" a year after we had graduated. He was home from college in Kentucky and introduced me to his then fiance. He tried to pursuade me to attend Kentucky also, but I had already been accepted to Kent State. Regrettably, life happened and we lost touch after that. So long, Dave. Rest in peace.
