Scott Davidson Grewell Obituary (1956 - 2023)

Graduation Year Class of 1974
Date of Birth Apr 01, 1956
Date of Passing Jul 22, 2023
About Scott Davidson Grewell (age 67) passed away peacefully and suddenly on Saturday, July 22, 2023 surrounded by his immediate family at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
Scott was an April Fool's baby, born on Easter Sunday in 1956 in Canton, Ohio to (and preceded by) Betty (Davidson) Grewell aka "Toad" and Curtis Grewell aka "Grinch." He graduated from Perry High School in 1974 and received the John Philip Sousa award, which recognizes the top student in the band for superior musicianship and outstanding dedication.
Between high school and college, he toured Europe playing with the Jazz Bands of America. He then obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Kent State University in 1981, where he met his future wife, Patricia "Patti" (Ittner) Grewell. They were married on March 20, 1982 at John Knox Presbyterian Church.
Scott was a well-known area musician performing with MANY bands as a drummer and singer and owned Zampino's Drum Shop in Canton, Ohio for 20 years. Throughout the time spent with many musicians, he created an extended family. His talent drew people into his orbit, while his kindness and generosity was the foundation of lifelong bonds. He also was a strong follower of Christ and performed in praise bands at John Knox, and most recently at New Home Church, with his wife Patti. In addition, he gave private percussion lessons for 50 years and was well-known for being a patient and devoted teacher. Many of his previous students have continued pursuing music in their professional careers. He was so proud of all of his students and their accomplishments.
Scott is survived by his spouse, Patti, his daughter, Melinda "Mindi" (Grewell) Applegate [and husband Peyton], his son, Gregory Grewell [and wife Kelsey (Scheppler)], and countless family and friends. He was one of the warmest, most gifted, witty, and full of life people you could ever know. Those he leaves behind will feel the hole in their hearts forever but take comfort in knowing his memory will live on in each of us and that he is at peace with the Lord now.
For those that would like to celebrate his life with us, we welcome you! The visitation will be Tuesday, July 25 from 5-8pm and the funeral service will be hosted Wednesday, July 26 at 11am, both of which at Reed's Funeral Home in North Canton, Ohio. Internment will be following the service at North Lawn Cemetery. There will also be a reception to follow the service and burial at The Barn at Monticello. Officiating will be done by Ryan Johanning.
In lieu of flowers, we would ask for donations to go to Scott's niece Juli (Smith) and husband Jamyle Cannon's non-profit, The Bloc, which supports youth and communities on Chicago's West Side. Visit theblocchicago.org/scott for more information and to make a contribution. To send flowers to the family of Scott, please visit our floral store.
