About | Anne “Patty Jean” Lovely, age 72, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016. She was born December 31, 1943 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Corbett and Carrie (Williams) Lovely. She spent the first few years of her life in West Virginia and Kentucky before her parents moved the family to Wakefield, Ohio, near Piketon. She grew up on a farm and was known to be adventurous, independent and a true lover of nature. After graduating from Piketon High School, Anne attended Ohio State University for about two years. She then married Edward Kohl and moved to Cincinnati, where she raised 5 children, Karen, Edward, Karmen, Eric and Kristyn. While still in Cincinnati she returned to university and completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and a master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati. She also completed an associate’s degree from Cincinnati State, studying Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. She worked briefly in the urban planning field before attending law school at the University of Denver, from which she obtained her JD in 1986. She had a rewarding career as an attorney in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She worked for the New Mexican Department of Transportation for most of her career, doing eminent domain and environmental law. After leaving NMDOT she worked for the County and the City of Santa Fe doing land use law. She retired from the practice of law in 2007 and then worked as a Planning Director for Taos County, New Mexico for a period of time. After retiring, she moved to Crestone Colorado, a beautiful area of southern Colorado located on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. There she spent her time hiking, bird watching, painting, meditating and practicing yoga. Her charitable activities included acting as a Board Member of the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation and volunteering for the Audubon Society of Santa Fe. She loved to travel, visiting her son in Germany, studying Buddhism in Scotland and India, and travelling to Cuba on a trip related to urban planning. She also traveled to Australia to visit her daughter and her family, as well as countless trips within the US to visit her children and siblings and their families. She also enjoyed many years of physical activity including tennis, running, hiking and yoga, as well as artistic endeavors, such as creative writing, painting, and sketching. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by brother, Robert Lovely. She is survived by her children, Karen Moeller, Edward Kohl, Karmen (Jane) Cottis, Eric (Fernanda) Kohl, and Kristyn (Dan) Kohl; grandchildren, Caroline and William Moeller, Clover Maleine Egbert, Dylan Andres Hans and Ethan Edward Fernando Kohl; siblings, Belvedere Lovely, Darlene (Tom) Gibson, Maleine Davis, and Drema (Roger) Banta; and special friend, Susan Robison.
